(
Not to be confused with why Multiply wants them to join!)
On
pages intended for prospective users, Multiply presents itself as a great place to put all the nifty digital content you're generating, so that others can access it. I believe it's presented the same way in email copies of things posted here.
And, well... it is that. This has everything to do with why
I'm here in the first place.
But a lot of people
don't generate nifty digital content. They might like taking a look at that generated by others, but they're not making much, if any, of their own. It's just not something they do.
This is perfectly okay, of course. More people consume most things than generate them. But these "consumers" often simply aren't interested in the features Multiply lists. They're not interested in "sharing" content; they're only looking because others are sharing with them.
Right now, I have a small base of dedicated "viewers." Several aren't Multiply members, so they get email copies of things. They look at them, but since they're not members, they can't offer feedback, and so on. Or if they do want to offer feedback, it shows up via email.
Some of these dedicated souls might not realize that actually registering would let them see
more of my content, since I don't make it all accessible to
everyone - in fact, a lot
isn't accessible to everyone. They might not realize that actually registering would let them leave comments. And so on.
What's in it for me? Well, when I post something, my friends, colleagues and relatives who
are on here get to see it without me having to remember to e-mail it to them, and without me having to worry about whether it's accessible to them, and so on. And that makes my life easier, of course.
So... Multiply wants people to join so they can share their content... whether they have any or not. Those of us who
do have content, on the other hand, want our friends, colleagues and relatives to join so
we can more easily share our content with them.
Hope that clarifies matters!
So, if you're one of the people who's been getting my Multiply stuff via email, you should go
join, already, so you can see things that I post for people close to me (as opposed to the general public), and leave comments on things that I post. :)
