I DECLINE roughly 99% of all invitations I receive on Multiply, because:
- 99% of all invitations I receive are from people I don't know.
- Multiply's Terms of Service prohibit asking people you don't know to add you.
- I don't want to encourage people to violate the Terms of Service.
- I don't want my inbox to fill up with stuff from people to whom I have no connection.
- I don't want my inbox to fill up with stuff in languages I can't even read.
Pretty simple and straightforward, right? So there you have it. If you know me, feel free to send me an invitation. (And please don't be offended if I'm forgetful and ask you to explain how you know me - I run into tons of people in my travels!) And if you
don't know me? Well, according to the
Terms of Service, you shouldn't be sending me an invitation. So don't.
If you don't currently know me, but for whatever crazy reason you want to know me (after which I would be more likely to ACCEPT an invitation from you) things are a little more complicated, because you have to figure out how to make me want to know you. If that sounds cold, aloof, or even arrogant... well, I couldn't find a better way of saying it. Start by asking yourself two questions:
- What about me makes you want me as a contact?
- What about you would make me want you as a contact?
I've worded these both in ways that I think will make them easier for you to answer. I'm mostly interested in your answer to the second one, of course, since that's what you're going to say in any invitation you send me. (If you don't have the sense to put anything in an invitation, you probably didn't have the sense to read this, either.)
More later...
